The Sidequest Series – Intro
How I started doing things just for myself again
Do you know that feeling when your everyday life suddenly consists of nothing but routine? Get up, go to work, come home, go to sleep. And somewhere in between, you ask yourself: Was that all for today?
That’s exactly how my life has felt lately. And that’s how this format came about.
When I started working after graduating from college, my daily routine quickly settled into a pattern.
My days were mostly the same:
get up, head to work, grab a quick sandwich on the way and eat it on the way, work, come home, chill out a bit, and then go to sleep.
The next day, the same thing all over again.
It wasn’t that I was unhappy. But at some point, I realized that there were hardly any things in my everyday life that made me truly happy. Things that I do just for the sake of doing them. Things that have nothing to do with productivity, to-do lists, or routine.
Maybe you know this feeling too.
During my studies, I didn’t notice it for a long time. My life was full of variety, new places, spontaneous plans, and new experiences. It was only when everything became more structured and predictable that I realized something was missing.
I felt a little alienated from myself. It was as if I was functioning, but not really figuring out what actually made me happy.
And then at some point, that one question hit me:
When did I actually stop trying new things?
When did I stop doing things just out of curiosity? Without knowing if I would be good at them. Without knowing if I would stick with them in the long term.
So I decided to change something.
No radical life change. No huge goals. Just small things.
I started giving myself side quests.
Small projects, ideas, or things I’ve wanted to try for a long time. Things that make me curious. Things that may have been floating around in my head for a long time, but for which I never found “the right time.”
Spoiler alert: there’s never a perfect time anyway.
So I just started.
Fun Fact: This blog was actually Sidequest No. 1.
Something I’ve been thinking about since forever, but just never had the guts to do it. Until now.
The Sidequest Series is exactly for that.
Here I share these little side quests, try new things, and try to make more room for curiosity, creativity, and joy in my everyday life.
And maybe it will inspire you too.
Maybe you also have an idea that’s been waiting somewhere in your head for a long time.
Maybe right now is the right moment for your first side quest.
